Titanium Grade 2 Plates/ Sheets for Boiler & Pressure Vessel Applications
For manufacturing of pressure vessels and apparatus from titanium grade 2 according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, there are three distinguished styles: full wall structures, loose linings, and claddings. Full wall structures are produced economically to wall thickness of about 15 mm and the use of commercially pure titanium grade 2 sheets/ plates is restricted to the maximum temperature of 250°C and pressure of 20 bars. The limited thermal stressing of titanium, possibilities of creep, and stress corrosion cracking occurring during welding shall be all taken into account. The loose linings of titanium are restricted to pressureless pressure vessels or internally pressurized components with inside heating or cooling. The titanium cladding offers the advantage of better heat conduction and protection against wrinkling from thermal changes or sudden exposure to vacuum. However, the cladding process is more costly than loose lining.
The titanium grade 2 (UNS R50400) plates/ sheets made to ASTM B265/ ASME SB-265 shall be furnished in annealed condition according to the ASME Code. They can be used for the construction of power boilers of Section I, nuclear facility components of Section III Class 2 & 3, pressure vessels of Section VIII Division 1 & 2, and transport thanks of Section XII. The maximum applicable temperature is 600°F for all applications.
