Corrosion Resistance of Titanium to Chromic Acid
Chromic acid is the aqueous solution of chromium trioxide (chromic anhydride) simply attained by dissolving CrO3 into water. The unalloyed titanium of ASTM grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 16 can be used for applications involving chromic acid over a wide range of concentrations and temperatures. The corrosion data is shown in below table.
Concentration of CrO3 | Temperature | Corrosion Rate | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
% | °C | °F | mm/yr | mils/yr |
10 | boiling | boiling | 0.003 | 0.12 |
15 | 24 | 75 | 0.005 | 0.2 |
15 | 82 | 180 | 0.015 | 0.6 |
