Applicability & Allowable Stress of ASTM A516 Gr.70
Applicability and Maximum Temp. Limits
The ASTM A516 Gr.70 (ASME SA-516 Gr.70) plates are applicable for the construction of power boilers (ASME BPVC Section I), nuclear power plant components (ASME BPVC Section III Classes 2 & 3), pressure vessels (ASME BPVC Section VIII Divsion 1), and transport tanks (ASME BPVC Section XII). According to ASME BPVC Seciton II, the maximum temperature limits and its application for SA-516 Gr. 70 are listed respectively:
- ASME Section I: 850°F
- ASME Seciton III CL 2 & 3: 700°F
- ASME Section VIII-1: 1000°F
- ASME Section XII: 650°F
