Monel 400 Applied for ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes
Monel 400, designed as UNS N04400, has the nominal composition of 67Ni-30Cu. Materials made from Monel 400 are widely applied for projects designed to ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes. They may be furnished in either annealed, hot worked, cold worked, as rolled, as drawn or stress rel. Its product forms cover plate, sheet, strip according to ASME SB-127/ASME B127; rod, bar, wire according to ASME SB-164/ASME B164; seamless pipe and tube according to ASME SB-165/ASME B165; forgings according to ASME SB-564/ASME B564; welded tube according to ASME SB-751/ASME B751.
Generally, the applicability and maximum temperature limits of Monel 400 in different product forms and conditions are listed below:
- The non-ferrous product forms of monel 400 mentioned above in both annealed, as rolled, hot worked and stress rel. conditions can be used for ASME Section I with maximum temperature limit of 550°F, ASME Section III with maximum temperature limit of 800°F, ASME Section VIII-1 Division 1 with maximum temperature limit of 1200°F, and Section XII with maximum temperature limit of 650°F.
- The bolting materials forms of monel 400 mentioned above in annealed, hot worked, cold worked and stress rel. conditions can be used for ASME Section III with maximum temperature limit of 800°F, ASME Section VIII-1 Division 1 with maximum temperature limit of 1650°F, ASME Section VIII-1 Division 2 with maximum temperature limit of 800°F, and Section XII with maximum temperature limit of 650°F.
