ASME SB-551/ ASTM B551
Identical with ASTM B551, ASME SB-551 is the standard specification for zirconium and zirconium alloy strip, sheet, and plate. It covers five grades: Gr. R60700 (low oxygen zirconium), Gr. R60702 (unalloyed zirconium), Gr. R60704 (Zr-Sn alloy), Gr. R60705 (Zr-Nb alloy), Gr. R60706 (Zr-Nb alloy). Zirconium strip: a flat product, may be supplied in coil, less than 6 inch [150 mm] in width and from 0.005 inch [0.13 mm] to 0.188 inch [4.8 mm] in thickness. Zirconium sheet: a flat product 6 inch [150 mm] or more in width and from 0.005 inch [0.13 mm] to 0.188 inch [4.8 mm] in thickness. Zirconium plate: a flat product more than 0.125 inch [3.2 mm] in thickness.
The Zr or Zr alloy strip, sheet and plate shall be made from ingots that are produced by vacuum or plasma arc melting, vacuum electron-beam melting, etc. All processes shall be done in furnaces used for reactive metals. The finished products usually shall be supplied in recrystallized annealed condition. The standard specification also covers ordering information, chemical composition, mechanical properties, condition and finish, permissible variations in dimensions and weights, workmanship and appearance, significance of numerical limits, number of tests and retests, sampling and test methods, inspection, rejection and referee, certification, product marking, packaging and package marking, additional requirements for material to be used for explosion cladding.
