Welding Ends of ASME B16.9 Pipe Fittings
Depending on the nominal wall thickness t, ASME B16.9 butt welding pipe fittings may be furnished with three types of welding ends in accordance with ASME B16.25: square cut, plain bevel, and compound bevel.
1. Square-Cut Welding Ends
For carbon steel or ferritic alloy steel pipe fittings with the nominal wall thickness t less than 5 mm(0.19 inch) and austenitic alloy steel fittings with the nominal wall thickness t less than 3 mm(0.12 inch), the welding ends shall be square-cut.
2. Plain Bevel Welding Ends
Butt welding pipe fittings manufactured to ASME B16.9 shall be furnished with plain bevel welding ends when the nominal wall thickness t meets any of the following requirements: (1) For carbon steel or ferritic alloy steel, 5 mm(0.19 inch) ≤ t ≤ 22 mm(0.88 inch); (2) For austenitic alloy steel 3 mm(0.12 inch) ≤ t ≤ 22 mm(0.88 inch).
3. Compound Bevel Welding Ends
Butt-welding fittings with nominal wall thickness greater than 22 mm(0.88 inch) shall be furnished with compound-bevel ends.
